A newborn octopus, a sea full of strangers, and the moon somewhere far above. Hold on to whoever is going up.

One tentacle, held down

Ollo can't really swim yet. Left alone he sinks, and the dark at the bottom of the screen rises after him.

So you hold. Wherever your finger presses, his tentacle lashes out and sticks to the first thing it touches. A drifting dumbo octopus carries him up at its own lazy pace; the rope reels in, he swings, and the moment you let go he flies on with everything the swing gave him. Lean with your finger while you ride and the swing grows.

A double tap puffs ink: a little jet upward, and a cloud that leaves anything hungry blinking for a few seconds.

Beads ride in the mantle

Glowbeads hang in the water and pop out of the animals you grab. Ollo carries them inside his mantle, glowing a little brighter with every one, but they only count once he passes a string of lantern jellies. Get swallowed before then and the beads go with him.

Sepia, an old cuttle with half-moon spectacles, turns them into a longer reach, a firmer grip, more ink and new skin patterns. Twenty-one marks wait to be lit on the Moon Chart.

Four ways up

Ascents

Twenty hand-tuned climbs, one layer each. Reach the lantern gate for a Speck, stow enough beads for a Glim, add the climb's own little feat for a Moonmark.

Open Column

Every layer in one breath, from 2,000 metres first. Surface, and the 5,000, 8,000 and finally 11,000 metre columns open: longer, darker, hungrier. Each depth keeps its own Tide Table.

Endless Trench

No floor and no surface. The layers loop, and every 2,000 metres the rides thin out and the hunters multiply. How far up can a small octopus get?

Seeded Swell

Turn three word wheels. The same three words always build the same water, so a friend can climb your exact swell.
